I finally spent some time cleaning out my master closet. The last time I spent any time working on this space was October 2020. Interestingly, it was not my clothes (for the most part) that need de-cluttering. It was all of the ancillaries-my purses, shoes, belts and items in the two drawers that house various travel and miscellaneous items. And, there were several items on the floor that needed to be dealt with. It also surprises me how much stuff I have!! The items on the floor and all of the other ancillary items took me twice as long as going through my clothing.
BEFORE
My clothing was already fairly well organized. It was simply time to get rid of items that were out of style or no longer fit or that I was no longer interested in.
I had stuff all over the place!!
Even though I had space in my closet for clothes, I was completely out of hangers!
I decided to be aggressive with my declutter; with all of my stuff! I started with the floor, the shoe cubbies and drawers and pulled it all out. One of the reasons I did this was because I didn’t want to get overwhelmed with the amount of stuff I had to deal with.
Having the shoes out and the floor cleared helped it feel like a much more manageable task.
I had to use the bathroom as a “holding area”!
The closet already had a sense of organization but I made one small change. I moved one of the shoe organizers up on the shelf which gave me the top of the other organizer to use.
AFTER
Going through my clothes was actually the easiest and quickest part of this task.
I know that I was successful in this task because, I went from having about 3 available hangers to “this” many!! These are my favorite type of hangers. I used to try and color code with my hangers but that is more stress than I need!
One of the positive consequences of cleaning out and reorganizing my closet is that I feel less stressed about getting dressed and I can more easily see where I have holes in my wardrobe. Another positive is that I actually like everything in my closet now!
I think that I let too much time go in between the last time I worked in the closet and now. This needs to be a yearly task!
