Fun Fashion Basics-Mostly

Time for another what I wore post! This time the focus is on basics and the flexibility of basics. I like clothing items that are fairly classic and simple but can look upgraded depending on what it’s paired with. As we know, I like to have fun with fashion but still be comfortable and stylish.

BASICS ONE

This first outfit is a fun one and is a kind of basic!

Now, even I will admit there is nothing “basic” about a sparkly, shiny suit but a suit is a basic. And, I am wearing a very cute yet basic square neck black bodysuit under it. With this much shine, you don’t need much in terms of accessories or anything taking the attention away from this great suit. This piece is also great in that in doesn’t have be worn together. Both pieces look great as separates as well as dressed down. In fact, I’ve the jacket with jeans to a basketball and received so many compliments!

I love the usable pockets on both the pants and jacket. It looks rather loud and garish on the hanger but on the body it’s simply a nice sparkly statement.

BASICS TWO

Okay, now we’re talking clothing that is definitely more “basic.” Here you have your basic jeans and t-shirt. However, the jeans are loose fit with minor distressing which gives the jeans a bit more visual interest. The t-shirt is very loose fit which I have tied a knot in the front giving it a more drapey look.

I’m wearing this casual outfit with some loafers that are in the same color family as the shirt. The loafers give it a slightly elevated look vs wearing with sneakers. Distressing on jeans is a very personal choice. I favor this amount of distressing vs the big huge holes or multiple holes in the pants. Again, I feel like the distressing adds visual interest to the outfit.

BASICS THREE

This is what I consider to be a basic work outfit even though I don’t always wear slacks and a button up shirt to work! It’s an easy outfit to put together but because of the shoes and the colors, it’s not boring. I love the maroon satin shirt and the pinstriped pants. The pinstripe is very light so it doesn’t detract or take over from the outfit. And the chunky loafers make the outfit just a bit more interesting! To keep the outfit a bit more casual, I opted to not wear a belt. A belt would make this outfit look more pulled together and less casual.

I’m trying to decide which sweater/jacket to wear. In my mind, I thought I’d wear the black and white sweater but once I put it on, I didn’t care for it. The length didn’t quite work. I tried this duster and liked it so much more. I added the black flower to tie it all together. However, the flower is NOT required. I think it’s fun and again, adds visual interest (are we spotting a theme here)??!!

BASICS FOUR

Here is another basic work or business casual outfit. Again, easy to put together and comfortable to wear. This is a colorful, elastic waist, pleated skirt with a basic cream t-shirt, a knee high brown suede like boots. Late last year, I had about 1/4 inch removed from these boots to make them more wearable on a day-to-day basis. I’m very happy with the change and have worn these boots much more regularly.

I’m not showing off my knee cap here, I’m showing you how high the boots are! With this outfit, I wore a moto style jacket to finish off this look.

So what do you think? Do you agree with my definition of basics? Would you wear my sparkly gold suit? Share in the comments.
