Pantry Project-The Real Work Begins

After all of the browsing, YouTube watching and googling, the work of actually doing the pantry project has finally begun. This is where the rubber meets the road and I can no longer hide behind “preparation.” It is my goal to bring this project to completion by the end of the 2nd quarter which is the end of June!
First things, first. About the only thing I know at this point is that I want to remove the wire shelving unit and install wood shelves. I know that this will require supports on the back and the sides which will require measuring-which I hate and don’t feel confident about. However, I can’t measure accurately until everything is removed. I’ve then decided that I will check with my measuring whiz friend, Michyle, to confirm my measurements.

Removal Begins

This was the starting point and I was not looking forward to this part of the work! Taking every single thing out and of course place it on my dining room table!

However, once the work started, I got excited when I started seeing the possibilities of what this space could be.
This pantry already looks better with just the items from the floor and on the sides removed! One change I’m looking forward to is being able to store items on the floor. This current space is so low to the bottom shelf that there isn’t much that fits under there. I’d like to be able to store paper towels, drinks and overflow items.

Decor Removal

The next task after removing everything was to remove the wire shelf and the wonderful decor I did years ago!

What’s so funny is that I couldn’t even see the decor when the shelves were filled!

You’ll notice from the first photos that you can’t see these fun vinyl words.

Done & More Work To Do

And now we’ve come to the end of the first phase. Everything is out and we have an empty canvas. I was able to get accurate measurements for the shelf supports and the shelves. I figured out how much wood I would need to for each and then confirmed with Michyle. And…….I was right!!

I also decided that I will be keeping the top shelf. It is the appropriate size and distance from the sprinkler head. Removing it would not grant me much in terms of extra space.

In a future post, I will share my installation and decorating plan. I’m so excited to be finally be doing the work to get this project done.
