As promised, today I am back to look at what I’ll attempt to complete in the 2nd quarter of this year (April/May/June). This quarter I want to focus on completing a major task and some smaller ones. I’m attempting to pay attention to my own rhythms and limitations and plan accordingly.
Whenever I work on a larger task, there will come a time when I get tired, overwhelmed or will need to do some more research, i.e. YouTube! At these times, rather than lose momentum, I want to have smaller less intensive projects lined up so that I can focus on those while I take a break.
The less intensive tasks I plan to work on during this quarter all involve completing some photographic tasks that have been on my to do list for a long time. It is not necessarily my goal to complete the projects but not make movement in the forward direction. If I do complete any of them, then that’s a bonus. For this current quarter I plan to:
*create a folder with photos from the Patton Family Building dedication
*create a folder with photos for the scrapbook frame in my hallway. These will likely be photos from the California Democratic Convention held in May 2023.
Creating these folders is not just dragging pictures into them. This is the first step but then I will start to choose the pictures I will use, do any needed edits, and then print the photos.
Major Project
The major project I plan to do will be of no surprise to anyone who reads my blog regularly. I’ve been talking about it since last year and a beginning step is on my goal list for April. And the project is (drumroll please), The Pantry Project!!!!
My goal for April is to do some research on what will be required to create the pantry the way I want it. In general, I want to remove the wire shelves and build shelves. I think that this will give me more room in the pantry mainly so that I can store larger items on the floor like paper towels and maybe even some smaller appliances.
You’ll recall that I recently did a reorganization of my pantry and that is my starting point.

This wire shelf does the job but I think it takes up room that could be usable with shelves. Also, because the shelf on the bottom is so low it doesn’t really work for storing most things. And, I don’t mind the top shelf with the cook books and other items but I think it can be raised to create more space. Finally, the wire shelf space is pretty low. I can space wooden shelves more to my preference.
Here are some inspiration photos to help me visualize what my pantry could be.

I like to containerize some items and other work well in their original containers. I also like the idea of being able larger non-food items on the floor.

I’m thinking that my shelves will look something like these two. Whatever I do will require measuring and cutting and drilling. I’m cool with cutting and drilling but I don’t care for the measuring mostly I suck at it and I never get it right. I will need to make sure that I not only measure twice (or more) but that I am patient and give myself some grace. I will have to remind myself that while it might be frustrating, it’s only temporary and I can ask for help/confirmation of my measurements.
I also want to make sure that my pantry still has room for my aprons, a couple of cleaning tools and other random items that might fit well in this space.
Stay tuned for my May monthly goals to see where my research has led. I’m sure I’ll be starting with lots of measuring first!! My goal is to get this project finished by the end of this 2nd quarter. We know that my projects can go on for several months so I’m really wanting to avoid that!!
If you have any ideas, suggestions, feedback, please share in the comments.
I like the inspiration pictures! One suggestion is to put in extra shelf supports now so you have flexibility in the future. You can move shelves around as things change without needing to pull out the tools and paint.
