2024 Goals Review-What Did I Get Done (or not)

Last week, I shared my goals for this current month and today I will review how I did with my goals for last year, 2024.
This practice can be fun sometimes but also a little depressing. It’s fun to review but sometimes if feels as if not much happened. Though I know that this isn’t really true, it can still feel disappointing.
I am opting to stick with my “progress, not perfection” mindset though. I know that all of my projects took much longer than anticipated for many reasons. I will always work on trying to be more efficient but the reality is that I am doing these projects alone, sometimes I’m tired or unmotivated and sometimes I need to watch videos about how to get certain things done.

Later this month I will share my goals for this year. One lesson learned is that I really only have a few goals. Most of what I document are projects. I am going to try and define my goals in more global terms and then each month have smaller steps to meet those goals. This is mainly with my health and financial goals. In the past, I’ve been too specific with the goals with not enough room to shift and adjust.

Today though is about doing a review for 2024. It was a busy year in many ways and I am pleased with a lot of what I got accomplished.

REVIEW OF 2024 GOALS

HOME
Kitchen
-repair ceiling
-do a fun treatment on the ceiling
-declutter kitchen cabinets
-declutter pantry
-create/cut labels for containers

As you can see I got a couple of things done but not all that I had intended.

Dining Room
-declutter hutch
-add a coffee bar
I did not add a coffee bar but I did decide that it was something that I didn’t want to do.

Hallway
-declutter linen closet
-paint hall tree
-clean out hall closet
I didn’t get any of these items completed

Balcony
-add storage
-change rug
-change cushions
I didn’t do any work on the balcony this year. Other than adding storage, I’m still unsure about how much else I want to change. Maybe the rug and the cushions just need cleaning. Maybe there is some other decor that I want out there. This area will definitely require more contemplation and maybe some Pinterest searching.

3rd Floor Storage
-clean out
Again, I didn’t do anything in this space.

Garage Storage
-clean out
Another space where I did nothing.

Primary Bedroom
-clean out dresser drawers
I managed to clean out 2 drawers. I’m disappointed in myself for not doing more here. If I had been more intentional and scheduled some time to get this done, I could have completed this task easily.

Laundry Closet
-makeover the space
-add storage
-add rug
-change light
-wallpaper
-paint

I got this room done last year even though it took much longer than anticipated. I was thrilled to finish this space. And the best part is that I continue to be thoroughly pleased with the end result!

Guest Room
-declutter stationary closet
-re-organize the closet

-get rid of the filing cabinet
figure out new storage for paper files
-get new storage for office supplies

Another major project that I finished and again took way longer than I wanted it to. Once I get rid of the filing cabinet, I plan to do some re-arranging in the room itself though I haven’t given it much thought at this point.

Creative
-complete scrapbook frame in the hallway
-make cards for birthdays and other events ( I did not complete this for the entire year though)
-create holiday pages for 2022 and 2023
-make a scrapbook page highlighting the Patton Building dedication
-display photos from the 2023 Democratic convention

Financial
-create monthly budget
-track spending
-have a no spend week every month
I did not complete any of these goals for the year but I also don’t think that these goals are very well written.

Fitness/Health
-do not eat past 8 PM
-meal plan and prep
-exercise consistently
-increase intake of vegetables
This is another set of goals that are not well written or necessarily sustainable for the year. For example, if I ate after 8 PM even one time, then I’ve failed this goal. I will address this more fully when I share my goals for 2025.

Other
-donate or sell old car
-have all 3 email boxes to zero
A big fat NOPE on both of these. One of my email boxes has about 16,000 emails!!

Running To Do List (RTDL)
I created this list to track smaller one off projects that I didn’t want to forget about. Overall, it was moderately successful.
2024 RTDL
-clean makeup brushes
-declutter makeup
-clean behind the stove

-clean behind the refrigerator
-install magnifying mirror in the primary bath
-install new shower head in the primary bath
-remove broken shower head in guest bath
-install shower head in guest bath

-print 2022 Project Life pagesthis one is not completely done because while I did order and receive the pages, I know that there are some pages missing so I have to go through my order and order the missing pages.
-put 2022 Project Life pages into an album
-print 2023 Project Life pages
-put 2023 Project Life pages into an album
-hem maxi dress that is too long
-touch up paint in the primary bath

While I did get a few things done on this list, I’m annoyed at myself for taking so long on these small tasks. Most of them didn’t take very long and a few of them I could have broken up the task into smaller pieces and gotten them done over the course of a month.

What do you think of this review? Would you rate this as a successful year? How did your goals go for 2024? Will you have goals in 2025? Share in the comments.
