If December is my 2nd favorite goal month, then January is my absolute favorite. There is nothing like the fresh start of a new year to think about goals, intentions and just how you want your life to be.
December was the month where I really chose to focus on spending time with family, friends, traveling and just enjoying the season. I’m pleased to announce that I in fact met this main goal.
However, I did have 2 other goals:
-do a Goodwill run-unfortunately, I was much too festive and much too busy to get this one done.
-get my holiday cards out by December 18. COMPLETED. It was a miracle that I managed to get cards out at all. Around Thanksgiving, I was pretty sure that I might not be sending cards at all. I had designed them and started organizing to make the cardd but realized that my design was too complicated and there was no way that I’d get over 60 handmade cards out on time. I re-grouped, simplified the card design and worked my butt off to get them done.

JANUARY GOALS
This year, I want to try something a little different with my goals. Instead of listing a bunch of things I’d like to try and get done during the month, I’m going to be a bit more thoughtful and focus on one area or a few smaller tasks/areas. I’m hoping that this will help to keep me more focused and not procrastinate as much as I usually do!
I also want to make sure that some of my monthly goals are smaller steps that will lead to my annual goals getting done. Later this month, I will post my annual goals for 2025. I’m working on writing the goals in a way that lends itself to larger goals being broken down into smaller goals.
HOME
*Clean out primary closet
*Goodwill run
CREATIVE
Every year I start off strong with sending cards to friends and family but as the year progresses either the creativity wanes or the motivation does. This year, I’m going to design a birthday card for the year that I will send to everyone (I hope no one minds)! So in the early part of this year, I will create a stash of cards that I can have on hand to send out when the occasion arises.
*send out birthday cards to friends and family
*build out my card stash for the year
FITNESS/HEALTH
With this category, I plan to be reasonable and also challenge myself. I let myself off of the hook too much last year. I really want to focus on my health this year and challenging myself to do better and be better is part of the plan.
*do a daily stretch (to practice being consistent)
*3 strength training sessions per week (this is the challenge)
FINANCIAL
Working on my financial plan and practices is always a work in progress! I am working with a new digital template that seems like it will work better for me and do more of what I need and want it to do.
*complete January budget
*track spending/receipts
Running To Do List (RTDL)
I will continue this list just so some of my smaller tasks have a place to live and don’t get forgotten. Sometimes, I might put one of them on my main goal list just so I can stop procrastinating! There are still several tasks left from 2024 that need completing. During this month I will go through my home and decide if there are other items to add to this list.
Are you goal focused or do you just let it happen when it happens? How do you handle small vs medium vs larger tasks? Share in the comments.
