Reading Goal Progress

Today, I’m sharing my reading progress for the months of June and July. As we get closer to the end of the year, I am getting nervous about whether or not I will hit my target. It doesn’t really matter because I’m pleased with the books I’ve read but I’m still trying to hit the goal if only for fun!

JUNE BOOKS

All The Little Raindrops

This is a thriller from start to finish. It is dark and suspenseful and takes turns that I did not expect. It makes you question how you might behave in a similar situation.

As the Wicked Watch

This book was written by tv host, Tamron Hall. I wanted to read it because I enjoy a true crime show that she used to host years ago. I figured the combination of journalism and crime that the story would be interesting. And I was right! This book is not nearly as dark as some other thrillers that I read-it’s more of a light thriller but still quite suspenseful.

Iona Inverson’s Rules for Commuting

I enjoyed the first book that I read by this author and wanted to read something else by her. The book is more light reading, not dark at all, but deals with relationships and community.

The Locked Door

Another book by a currently very popular author. Her books all follow a formula but the stories are interesting enough that the formula doesn’t feel fake or forced. You just have to remember that there will be a major twist at the end. It doesn’t change the ending but it does give more information that you are not likely expecting.

The Co-Worker

I like to listen to these books because the stories are interesting and suspenseful. Books by this author are more light thriller because they aren’t nearly as dark as some and there is some humor in them as well. This book was okay. I didn’t enjoy it as much as her others. However, books by this author are good to read if you’re trying to get back into reading and want something easy to get into and doesn’t take a ton of effort.

JULY BOOKS

April in Spain

I read this book for one of my book clubs. It was just okay. I listened to it and the author has a strong Irish accent which took a little getting used to. However, once I got into the rhythm of the reading, the story was decent. However, it seemed like the author rushed the end. There was all of this build up and then boom it was over.

Homegoing

This book was recommended to me by a couple of friends from another bookclub. And it did not disappoint! It is an epic adventure about sisters who grow up differently and separately. Definitely worth the read.

How the Penguins Saved Veronica

Another book read for a bookclub. I did not know what to expect with this book but I found it absolutely delightful. As I’ve stated many times, I love books about relationships, redemption and finding meaning in life. This book is sad, funny, poignant, maddening and just overall wonderful.

None of this is True

Another thriller of course! I’ve read several books by this author and usually enjoy them. This one is no different. It’s actually a bit darker than her other books and there are twists and turns that I definitely did not see coming.

Watch Where They Hide

This is the 2nd book in the series and I enjoyed it as much as the first (which I read in June). It, too is a thriller but again not as dark and much lighter than some of the thrillers I read. The author again combines her skill as a journalist and true crime aficionado to flesh out these characters and stories. I look forward to reading more.

July: 5 books read; 34 total books read; 31 books left to read.

Here’s to getting caught up on the reading journey. Later this month, I’ll report on August and maybe September! If you have any book suggestions, please list them in the comments.
Happy Reading!!
