Today, I have a brief update on my laundry closet makeover. I want to do these updates as I go along to hopefully help keep me on task. One thing I have talked about recently is that I get distracted thinking about all of the tasks I want to do and as a result I get scattered, things take much longer than intended and then some things only get done partly.
In that vein, I’ve had to remind myself a few times to just focus on the laundry room and I’ve to re-direct myself.
When I last left you, I had emptied out my laundry closet and received my new machines. Since then, I returned some items to the laundry closet so that I could still do laundry while I worked on the plan for the makeover.
This is what the temporary set up looked like. In clearing out the closet, I took the opportunity to get rid of some items that I knew I didn’t want to keep and trying to figure out what the final configuration would look like.
I realized while working on this makeover that I sometimes procrastinate on tasks because I really don’t like the part of the makeover where you have to dismantle everything and store it elsewhere while the makeover is happening.
I pushed through and decided to just get started.
FIRST THINGS FIRST
So far, I have pulled everything out that was in front of the machines. The laundry materials remain easily accessible in the bathroom across the hall.
The next task was to decide on the paint color. My two choices are high maintenance which is a lighter, blush type pink and beauty queen which is a much brighter pink. In case I might not have said before, I plan to have some fun with updates of color and decor in this room. The laundry closet is behind closed doors so there’s no need to be concerned about it clashing with the hallway or other decor in the house.
Here are larger swatches of my 2 choices:
At this point, I have made my choice and am looking forward to moving along with the painting!
Another Decision Update
I knew that I wanted to replace the shelves but because the size of the space is so small and awkward it has been very tricky. I had thoughts about wanting to find a thrifted item and make it over but the size limitations made that impossible. So instead, I put my dimensions into the internet and went searching. I found something that I am really happy with (so far).
I found this on Wayfair and am pleased with how well it fits in the space. And, this is the easiest piece of furniture I have ever put together! I did it right the first time!!! There were no backward shelves, no screws in the wrong holes and I didn’t drop it anywhere on my body. This is also the first time that I’ve ordered something that needed to be put together and they gave you EXTRA screws!! Amazing!
So that’s it for this brief update! I look forward to sticking with plan and getting this done before I move on to my next project. Wish me luck!!
