We’re here in 2024 now, but let’s look back at the last year and review how I did meeting my stated goals. I’m going to go over my home goals first and then review some personal goals.
Home
Kitchen
Repair Ceiling
Paint Cabinets
Declutter Cabinets
I didn’t get any of these done in 2023.
Dining Room
Clean out hutch
Remove Boxes-DONE
Touch up paint-wall and ceiling
Re-arrange furniture
I did clean out the space and removed all the boxes and stuff that did not belong.
Garage
Clean out storage cabinet
Not yet but hopefully soon. This space could be really useful for storage and honestly most stuff in here does not need to be here.
Balcony
Clean and organize
Add storage-I’m looking at something like this
I haven’t done anything here yet.
3rd floor storage
Clean out space
I have started on this space but did not make much progress in 2023. I don’t think this is a weekend project but I do think it’s a “just decide to do it and get started”. This spot has a lot of emotional items which is one reason that I am procrastinating on working on it. I need to come up with a strategy to get started.
Guest Room
Clean out closet-decor and supplies-half done. I cleaned out the decor side.
Organize storage dresser-DONE
Get rid of filing cabinet
Re-arrange furniture
This area and room is a work in progress.
When I look back, I feel disappointed in myself-like I didn’t get anything done. But when I look back at my blog posts, I realize that I got a lot done just not the big things on this list. I don’t give myself enough credit for all I actually get done and I don’t really plan for the smaller projects-they just come up at times when I’m get frustrated-my closet gets too stuffed, the drawer won’t close, etc.
This year when I write my annual goals, I’m going to try and remember to include the smaller projects that always come up and take time to get done. I know that I can’t go from one large project to another and the smaller projects work to keep the creative juices flowing.
Other projects done in 2023:
3/30-Guest room closet clean out-decor (I still need to clean out the stationary side).
5/16-Declutter jewelry
7/18-Re-organize under the bathroom sinks in the primary bathroom. A medium sized project as I completed one side at a time (2 cabinets).
9/12-Dresser Drawer clean out-cleaned out my exercise tops and bottoms
11/9-Primary Closet-Declutter-this was more a medium sized project that took a bit more time than expected. But it’s done and I’m happy. There will be a full post about the completion coming soon.
FYI-the dates represent the associated blog post.
HABIT LIST
At the beginning of 2023, I had created a list a habits I wanted to either develop or break. Let me say straight away that following this list did not work as I had intended. I said I wanted to:
-no alarm snoozing
-7-9 hours of sleep per night
-develop a morning routine
-develop an evening routine
-go to the gym once per week for a water work out or group class
-develop a consistent strength training routine
-use available resources to learn and grow professionally
-continue to learn and grow personally
When I look at this list now, I see how impossible it is!!! The beginning of a new year can make you feel unstoppable-the energy is fierce! There is nothing “bad” about these goals but trying to incorporate all of this in one year is crazy making. I will think about working on a couple of these habits this year.
The over arching goal was to improve my health including my blood glucose levels. While this is still a goal, my approach is a bit different this year.
In 2024, I plan to and will work to be more diligent about starting and finishing projects and not having projects drag on and on. I’m trying to be more disciplined and less lazy! I’m joking about the lazy but I’m working on not over thinking and over planning and just doing-especially with the smaller projects. I have to stop listening to my lizard brain telling me that I can wait or do it tomorrow or that I’ve worked hard enough already!
In any event, I wish I had gotten more done in 2023. I am happy with many of the things that I did get done and really look forward to doing more in 2024.
Wish me luck!! If you have any ideas how I can work longer, stronger and harder, let me know in the comments.
