Reading Time-The Journey Continues

I have a goal to read 70 books this year. That turns out to be about 6 books per month. I don’t typically think about how many books I’m reading in each month but it seems to be generally about 4-6. In order to meet my goal, I will need to read more than 6 books in some months. I’m going to try and do that in the first part of the year so that I’m not struggling at the end of the year when there may be less time to attend to my reading journey.
Just to remind you, I typically read books on my iPad or listen to books on several different apps. I have an Audible account and I also listen through my library accounts which are linked with Libby, Axis 360 and Hoopla. I also read books through these apps. Libby sometimes lets you read through the Kindle app which I do as well. Typically, I read one book and listen to another at the same time. Because I’m using 2 different senses, I am able to keep the stories separate.
I very much like physical books but I find that being able to adjust the text size (larger) on e-books makes reading much easier for me using the iPad.
I read books of my own choosing and I am also in 2 book clubs and find myself reading and often loving books that I would not have read otherwise. My favorite genres are psychological thrillers and mysteries and historical fiction.

FEBRUARY BOOKS

reading journey-book lovers

Book Lovers by Emily Henry

Not your typical rom-com or chick lit book! I’m really loving these new breed of female leads who are flawed but still relatable and still fairly decent people. They are interested in relationships but not looking for a man to “complete” their lives. I gave this book 4 stars.

reading journey-olga dies dreaming

Olga Dies Dreaming by Xochitl Gonzalez

Another really great book! I listened to this one and it gives you a real sense of what it’s like to be a Puerto Rican in New York rich with family, culture and secrets. 4 stars.

reading journey-carrie soto is back

Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I have read several books by this author (The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, One True Loves, Malibu Rising and Daisy Jones and the Six) and have liked if not loved them all. I really like this book as well though not so much as some of her others. It takes a bit to get into it but once you do it gets very intriguing. Several people from Malibu Rising make brief appearances in this book as Carrie Soto briefly appears in Malibu Rising. I gave this book 3.5 stars.

reading journey-death in a strange country

Death in a Strange Country by Donna Leon

This is book 2 in the Commissario Brunetti series-Book 1 was Death at La Fenice. These books take place in Venice, Italy and you get a great sense of the city and Italian culture. This series is a what I call a palette cleanser. It’s an easy, unchallenging read after having read heavier and more emotional subject matter.
There are currently 32 books in this series. I don’t know that I’ll read them all but I gave this one 3.0 stars. I really like book series and generally enjoy spending time with continuing characters with different story lines.

reading journey-local woman missing

Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica

This is the type of thriller/mystery that I really like. There are a few main characters each of whom add to the story and the mystery. While it seems like a pretty straight forward mystery, you definitely get thrown for a loop. The reveal was a great surprise. I enjoyed this book so much that I will definitely read more from this author. I gave this book received 4.5 stars.
