Here is the list of books for this month to add to my annual reading journey! I enjoyed all of these books for very different reasons. Some of the books are your typical thriller while others are historical fiction. A couple are plain fiction but really good. I did read a couple of old John Grisham books. I read The Whistler and liked it so much that I continued on with the continuation of the story in The Judge’s List. I’m interested in reading Grisham’s latest, The Boys from Biloxi, but there is a really long wait on the library apps that I use.
Adult Assembly Required
I’ve read a couple of books by this author that I’ve really enjoyed. Her books are easy to read but still have depth and some seriousness. The probably fall under “chick lit” but aren’t fluffy or romance type novels.
I’ve also read this one and this one.
Nora Goes Off Script
This is a first for me for this author but I will definitely read more. This also falls in the “chick lit” vein but is not at all fluffy though it is a lot of fun!
The Island of See Women
This book falls into the historical fiction realm. It is fascinating and sad and grips you. I have read several books by Lisa See and have loved everyone of them. A couple of my favorites include this one and this one. All of Lisa See’s book are generally historical fiction.
American Dirt
This book is intense from the first page until the bitter end. It is brutal and tragic with small doses of hope. In spite of how hard it is to get through it, I do recommend delving into this book. It gives a very inside look at what it looks like to have to leave your life and start anew.
The Last Mrs. Parrish
This book is co-authored by two sisters and a first for me. The story is captivating with twists and turns that just keeping coming until the end. What I like about this book is that you get the perspective of the two main characters which just adds to suspense. I’ll likely read something else by this author.
Remarkably Bright Creatures
This is a debut novel by this author which is unbelievable. She hits all of the right chords and notes with all of the characters. I don’t typically like books that involve animals or creatures but I fell in love with this one. This book is heartwarming and heart filling. I highly recommend it especially if you’re needing to have your heart touched.
The Whistler
This is a John Grisham legal thriller and like many of his works it does not disappoint. As I said earlier, I couldn’t wait to read the 2nd one once I finished this first one.
The Judge’s List
One of the things I enjoyed about this book is that not only does it continue the story (though it stands alone) is that the book introduces and continues stories that I did not expect it to. Both books are a good, fun, easy yet intriguing read.
The Reckless Oath We Made
I read this book by the same author and fell in love with it. It is not an easy read and it deals with very difficult subject matter. The Reckless Oath We Made is no different. All of the characters are flawed, some of downright despicable and the main characters are just trying to get by in life. That description may not make you want to read this book but I do recommend it. If you like character study as I do, you will not be sorry. In spite of the heavy nature of the book, there is always something or someone to root for.
