Fall Fashion Trends I’m Loving

As you’re aware, I’m a big fan of fashion, specifically wearable fashion. I don’t follow designers or fashion shows but I do like to see what from the runway gets translated to day to day wear.
People should wear whatever makes them feel good about themselves.  I don’t really think there are clothes anyone shouldn’t wear unless they don’t want to.

I’m also a big experimenter with styles.  Doing this has helped me to develop an eye for what I like and what looks good on me. I do though have to remind myself to try things that seem “not me”!
One recent example of this is clogs!  I wore clogs in the 1970’s but haven’t really been a fan of them since.  In recent years, clogs have been designed more for comfort than style and I have not liked them. Well, recently I saw a pair of clogs that I will likely add to my shoe wardrobe.

I am also loving the lug sole trend.  It’s so interesting because typically I don’t care for chunky soles but I do like this trend. There are lug sole boots and loafers that are the most popular. I will definitely be taking part in this trend as well.

While there are many trends this fall, the ones below are what I am especially loving!

CLOGS

There are many new styles of clog recently but I am really liking these from Crown Vintage at DSW (in the photo above, they are in the upper right). I’m not even sure what it is that I like but the style is resonating with me. I like that they can be worn with skirts and pants and while casual are more dressy than a tennis shoe and less fancy than ballerina flats.

WIDE LEG PANTS

This trend isn’t necessarily new but the size of the flare is more the trend.  You’ll see many pants with a really large flare.

The wide leg pants can be long, ankle length or cropped. You see the wide flares in slacks as well as jeans.

OVERSIZED BLAZERS

Blazers are always in style but right now oversized blazers are in.  Oversized goes from slightly oversized to so big it looks like you’re wearing the wrong size. I prefer the slightly oversized look.

LEATHER, LEATHER, FAUX LEATHER

This is probably the trend that I see everywhere, at all price points and at all sizes. Pants, leggings, skirts, dresses, and more. Both Walmart and Target are carrying faux leather items that are nicely priced and look really nice on. This is probably the most surprising thing in that this faux leather looks really luxe. I already have some leather leggings and might consider some other pieces. I really like the pleated leather skirt.

LUG SOLE LOAFERS AND BOOTS

This trend is also everywhere and not particularly new. There have always been shoes with chunky heels. The difference is that these are much more wearable, versatile and don’t necessarily stick out like a sore thumb. This trend has been made stylish!

Both of these shoes look much better on the foot than in photos! Both can be worn with dresses, skirts and pants. When scaled properly, both of these can be worn with some of the aforementioned trends like the wide leg pants and the oversized blazers.

There are other fall trends out there as well but nothing that is calling to me (at this point). Shoulder pads are back though not as extreme as in the 1980’s. Also, something called dopamine dressing is also really popular. This refers to really bright colors that act as mood boosters. Fuchsia and turquoise are just two of the colors that fall into this category. If you’re a person that doesn’t typically wear color then this might resonate with you but I wear color so it’s no big deal to me.

While I don’t think it’s necessary to follow trends, I do think it’s fun to pay attention to what is popular and see if you like anything. Dressing and fashion are very personal choices and there are no right and wrong answers. If you’re looking to change or update your style though, looking at what is out there is a good place to start.

Any thoughts on these trends or any of the others? What do you think about dopamine dressing? Share in the comments.
