I love celebrating birthdays-mine and everyone else’s! This year was a big one for me-60!!! I am having a bit of a hard time realizing that I am actually 60 years old because I feel like I’m 35! I appreciate that I have had this much time on earth and look forward to many more years; it’s just strange.
In any event, I am a big fan of not just celebrating a birth-day but a birth-month.
My celebration started on July 14 when I went to drinks and dinner at RH Cafe in San Francisco. I love this Restoration Hardware chain. Each is beautifully decorated with Restoration Hardware items and are casual elegance. They often have gorgeous lighting displays and very welcoming and comforting seating areas. In addition to the stunning visuals, the food is delicious.
Then, the following day I got my nose pierced! I wanted to do something special and memorable to commemorate the occasion. And I love it! It is subtle and unassuming. When it is completely healed, I will likely wear a hoop at times in addition to the stud. I was pleased that it didn’t hurt and there was no pain after. There was a little blood for a couple of days but that’s it.
My birthday was Sunday, July 17. I started the day with brunch with a couple of friends. I had already scheduled a dinner party so I wasn’t clear why a couple of friends wanted to have brunch as well. But oh well. Like I said, I like to celebrate. Turns out the brunch was simply a ruse to get my friend Michele who lives in Southern California to surprise me. The video shows you exactly how surprised I was!
Surprise!!
Brunch was delicious and was a wonderful way to start the day!
After brunch, we had a few hours to kill so went to Central Park in San Mateo and walked around the Japanese Garden there. It is a beautiful hidden spot. Michele is very into plants and gardening and loved all that we saw there.
From there, it was time for dinner.
Dinner was held at Stella Alpina Osteria in Burlingame. It was a real joy and pleasure for me to see new and old friends enjoying each other’s company. I felt quite blessed that all of these wonderful people showed up for me.
Even Debbie who lives in North Carolina was there at least in spirit. She very generously provided 2 bottles of champagne to start the night.
The food was delicious and I was happy to take home a little doggie bag which I did in fact eat the next day.
Back to the real world on Monday for most but it was a day off her me. Michele’s flight was later in the afternoon from Oakland Airport so we had some time to spend together during the day. We had breakfast at Stacks in Menlo Park and then we headed to the East Bay and spent some time driving around the lovely town of Alameda. On the way, we had some yummy ice cream.
After I dropped Michele off at the airport, my weekend celebration was officially over. I had a great time and hope that I always want to celebrate my birthday. Once you are no longer a child, it seems that birthdays are the only guaranteed day that we get to celebrate ourselves especially as we get up in age. Celebrating each year is a reminder that while time may be short, we are still present with lots to celebrate.
