One of my goals for January (and this year) is to make some traditional and/or digital scrapbook pages. I decided to start by catching up with my holiday pages. Typically, I collect all of the holiday cards that I receive and make a scrapbook page where I can keep the cards. I thought I would have a few years to catch up on but as it turns out I had 10(!) TEN years to catch up on! Whew!!
When I was working on organizing my photos (physical copies), I separated out the different years of holiday cards in preparation for this creative task. Having done that part, made it really easy to work on the pages.
I also decided that I would create a template and do the pages the same way rather than try and come up with a different style for each. Now that I am caught up, I will make a two page layout for the holidays. One with the cards and the other page will have other photos and some journaling. I’m currently working on this style for 2021 which I will share in a future post.
MAKING THE TEMPLATE
This template is pretty easy. I created a pocket for the cards and letters and put the year on top of the pocket. I did this for the years 2011-2020. I noticed that people clearly started sending fewer cards around 2015!
I used holiday themed scrapbook paper for the background and also for the “pockets.” I cut out the years and the Christmas trees on my die cutting machine and used various stickers and chipboard pieces for some more decoration. I have had these pieces in my craft stash for a long time and I was happy to use them up!!
After that, I just had to put the cards into the pockets.
2011-2012
2013-2014
2015-2016
2017-2018
2019-2020
It really great to watch kids grow up while I was doing this project. I was also glad that for most years I remembered to put in the card that I made for each year. I want to also make sure that I include a photo from the Bookclub Babes either from our annual holiday party or another time from the year.
I really tried not to stress too much and just focus on getting it done. I am presently working on the two page layout for 2021.
Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth going through all of this. And then when I see the pictures, letters and cards it becomes crystal clear that not only is it worth it but it is also a joy to make these pages! I always free fortunate when I receive these cards and re-living several years at one time I felt the love!
Preserve your memories! They are important and those after you will appreciate it even if they don’t know it today!
