Moving on with the living room refresh and it’s time to talk furniture. I had decided that I wanted a tv stand with 2 bookshelves on either side. In my last post, I shared what I had chosen.
The next decision was do I put them together myself or hire it out. I decided to go ahead and do it myself. Mostly because I knew that I could and I wanted to get as much done before my vacation as possible and didn’t want to beholden to anyone else’s schedule.
BOOKSHELVES
These are pretty straightforward to put together but as always I usually do something backward and I did this time as well! No harm, no foul it all worked out.
Ikea has gotten everyone used to these packages that arrive flat and YOU have to put the items together. For me, this makes the task daunting which is why I even question if I want to do it. All of the pieces and parts can get overwhelming and the instructions are pictures-no words!!
I tried to be organized about it lining everything up and separating the screws and other hardware.
TV STAND
I don’t want to give too much away until I do a complete reveal of the living room. While the bookshelves were pretty straight forward to assemble, this tv stand gave me fits. At one point I was sure that I needed another set of hands due to size and weight of the unit. I had resigned myself to waiting until my friends returned from their vacation to ask for help. After looking at the unit for a couple of days, I wondered if in fact I had something backwards. Again, the directions were pictures and were not great. I determined that I was having trouble because I had a couple of pieces turned the wrong way. Lo and behold, once I made the adjustment, the unit went together easily!
Here she is all finished!
THE UNPLANNED UNIT
As is my pattern, as I start making changes and putting the room together, I decided that I need another storage unit for some very specific items. Ikea did not have the unit I actually wanted so I got 2 of these and have room for another if I decide that I need it.
These units were very easy to put together. After the struggles with the other furniture, I was thrilled at how easy these were to put together.
SNEAK PEEK
Without giving too much away, here is a sneak peek of how the living room is coming together.
UP NEXT
Coming up soon, I will share with you what I decided on for the lighting and floor covering.
Stay tuned!
