LIVING ROOM REFRESH-FINAL CHOICES

living room refresh

Well, this title isn’t the complete truth. I don’t have final choices for every thing in the living room but I have come to some decisions on some big things.

Today, I’m going to share with you my final choices on the paint colors for the wall and the fireplace as well as the new furniture I chose for the tv cabinet & book shelves. I know that there are many more decisions to be made and I’m waiting on some of them. I like to wait until some of the larger things are done and then attend to the details.

PAINT COLORS

Paint colors are initially tricky business! At first, there are so many paint color options that it can be hard to know where to start. I had seen a paint color on a YouTube video that I was watching. I loved the paint color in the video but when I went to the paint store I hated it!! Turns out, it was way more green in real life than on video!

At first, I wasn’t sure if I wanted the fireplace to be black or gray and it also depended on what wall color I chose. I used the Sherwin Williams Color App, called Color Snap. I took a photo of one of my walls and tried different colors on each through the app. This really helped me narrow it down to 6-9 colors. Ultimately, I chose 3 samples for the wall and 3 for the fireplace.

For the fireplace the three choices are:

Tricorn Black, Iron Ore and Caviar. All colors are from Sherwin Williams.

Iron Ore

Caviar

And the winner is………………………………………………

TRICORN BLACK!!!! I really loved the deep, richness of this true black against the new wall color. Iron Ore was a bit too charcoal. Caviar was my 2nd favorite but Tricorn Black was more of a true black.

The three choices for the wall are:

Passive, Repose Gray and Agreeable Gray. All beautiful colors that I can see being used in my home. And again, these are all colors by Sherwin Williams. And remember, the big goal is to lighten up this room!

Passive

Repose Gray

Agreeable Gray

And the winner is…….PASSIVE. I love how this color lightened up the room without being white. It works well during both day and night time. It also has a purplish undertone which plays nicely with the blue in my dining room as well as with the black on the fireplace.
Interestingly, all of these paint colors read much darker here than on the wall.

The colors are much lighter on the wall with a base coat of white underneath each.

FURNITURE

The first big decision I wanted to make was the tv cabinet and the bookshelves. I did a ton of internet searching and ultimately went in a direction that I had not planned. I got matching pieces! Usually, I prefer to mix and match but my goal was for this to look more like built ins so matching pieces better achieve that goal.

I went with pieces from Ashley Home furniture.

This is the Dorrinson model. It is the 54″ tv stand. It was difficult to find tv stands this size. The most common size seems to around 58″ which was too large for my space requirements.

This is the same model in the bookshelf. I purchased 2-one to go on each side of the tv stand and they are 71″ tall.
The question now is do I spend the time putting them together myself or do I hire it out??!! There are pros & cons to each. I have put together many pieces and know how to do it but I’m kind of over it. But, I don’t know how much it will cost to hire it out so that’s something that I may research! It’s about my time versus my money!!

That’s where we stand for now on final choices. Next, I’ll be deciding on a new rug, end tables or no end tables, lighting, decor for over the fireplace and the two walls that will be empty as well as any other miscellaneous decor.
