One of my goals for this year is to hand make cards every month for family and friends. So far, so good! This month I made 2 birthday cards for friends.
As like last month, everything I used was from items that I had in my stash. I used a stencil to create the design and then used a clear texture paste to give the design dimension. If you run your hand over it you can feel the design as opposed to it just being flat on the paper. There is no right or wrong way-this is just another way to use stencils. I used ink from stamp pads to color the texture medium. For the sentiment, I stamped it on a strip of white cardstock and cut it into a banner shape. The adhesive gems were taken from my stash.
On this card, I used two different ink colors. This stencil has so much area that you can use as many different colors as your imagination allows. So that the colors don’t mix together & end up muddy, you should mask off the area that you are not coloring. However, you can create a nice effect when you allow different colors to touch & blend a little!
As you can see, I only used one color on this card but I like it just as much as the card with 2 colors. This was my first time using texture paste but if definitely will not be my last. I really like the idea of being able to use stencils with just stamps or texture, one color, many colors, etc…The creative options are endless!
I realized that January’s cards follow the same pattern but with embossing instead of texture paste. Embossing provides very minor dimension but is still mostly flat.
I have at least 2 birthday cards in March so I think I’ll have to switch up the technique! This is one of the beauties of making something each month. I can try new techniques and expand my skill set!
