The master bath project moves on in full force and we’re doing more painting. Now it’s time for the prep work for painting which includes filling holes, doing the cutting in around the top and corners and covering up the gray paint samples.
I needed to cover up the gray sample paint colors that had been on the wall for years! I’ve been thinking about this makeover for years and at one point was leaning toward painting the walls gray. At some point last year, I decided that gray was too dark.
The prep work is often the most challenging part of painting. It requires climbing on ladders and lots of bending and reaching. After the prep work, I moved right into painting the ceiling. I hae never painted a ceiling before and I totally get why people hate doing it. It is hard work, the extension pole is only mildly helpful and I still needed to use the regular roller to get into many spots.
I also removed the bathroom fan for a special project!
And that special project was painting the fan. I’m pretty sure that the fan started out a beige color though it had yellowed over the years. I also toyed with replacing it but it was a much bigger project than I could comfortably tackle. The fan still works so I decided to paint it to match the ceiling and walls! You can also see the painted ceiling in these photos.
Painting is dirty work and I have “painting” clothes and shoes. No matter what I do, I tend to make a mess when painting including getting paint on the floor! Because I’ll be laying a new floor on top on this one, I really don’t care. If I wasn’t replacing the floor, I would definitely have it covered.
Taking a photo of the paint on the walls is so hard especially because it’s white so there’s not a ton of contrast. When all is said and done, you’ll be able to see the difference.
And finally, the cabinet is done and everything is put back together!! I touched up some black paint on the hardware once it was all re-installed.
And the best news, I love the look!
So, now we have the medicine cabinet removed and shelves created, the mirror taken down, the floor prepped, the cabinet painted & put back together and the walls painted.
Next up is the mirror wall, new faucets and toilet paper holder. Stay tuned-it’s really happening!
How do you feel about painting? Do you consider it a DIY or something you’d hire out? What about the other tasks I’ve done? DIY or no? Share in the comments.
Well done, you! Love the color Trena.
Thank you!! Stay tuned-it’s really coming together!
