Life Lately-my extra curricular activity

Here’s a little taste of how I spend my life when I’m not working on home improvement or creative projects.

MARIE FORLEO

My friend, Debbie, and I went to see Marie Forleo for her book launch.  The book is titled Everything is Figureoutable based on her philosophy that you can figure out whatever it is you need to know. Marie Forleo is described as  a life coach, motivational speaker and author. Oprah has named her as a thought leader for the next generation.

Her talk was very inspirational and she is hysterical.  She talks about how she worked on Wall Street but wasn’t happy and had to figure out what she wanted to do with her life. We all received a copy of the book which I look forward to reading.

SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

It’s a little hard to believe since I’m such a huge sports fan especially for my local teams but this was my first attendance at at Giants game this year! My co-worker floated the idea and I accepted the invitation. It was a cold and misty night but it was fun none the less. It was also special because the manager, Bruce Bochy is retiring at the conclusion of this season.

WINE TASTING EVENT

More fun with Debbie!!! Debbie had access to this event through an airline miles program.  It was held at The Vault Restaurant in San Francisco where we had the opportunity to be taught by one of the few female master sommeliers in the United States, Laura Williamson.

We were wined and dined (quite literally) and got to sample 4 wines which were paired with different dishes. I tend to have an uncomplicated palette and shy away from “fancy” foods.  Every time I looked at what food was paired with the wine, I would take a deep breath and tell myself to just try it. I am proud to say that not only did I try all of the pairings but I really enjoyed most of it. I am realizing that as I get older my tastes are changing. Things that I have eaten in the past and not liked I am now having a new and positive experience.  I was not looking forward to trying to the duck but it was my favorite food item from the event.

The wines were very good as well!  Here is a list of the food and wine pairings:

HEIRLOOM TOMATO SALAD paired with 2017 Ciro Picariello Fiano di Avelino (Campania, Italy)
CARAMELIZED ONION TART paired with 2017 Michael Frohlich Escherndorfer Lump Silvaner (Franken, Germany)
DUCK CONFIT paired with 2016 Burn Cottage Moonlight Race Pinot Noir (Central Otago, New Zealand)
NY STRIP STEAK paired with Casa de Mouraz, Tinto (Dao, Portugal)

It was very nice to learn about wine from an expert who welcomed ALL questions from the most simple to the most complex. The sommelier herself grew up in a dry county and did not have any experience with wine until she was in college!

GABRIELLE BERNSTEIN

Another motivational speaker event with a book launch but this one is with a spiritual event. And more fun with Debbie! Gabby’s book is called Super Attractor and it’s about living your life in alignment-living your own authentic life.  This event also included being guided through some meditations which were difficult for me in the group but was good to try.

Again, we received the book as well as a journal to document our continued spiritual walk to alignment.

[AR]T WALK: AUGMENTED REALITIES CO-CURATED WITH NEW MUSEUM

I attended this event with friends who were visiting from out of town.  It was a free event put on by the Apple store in San Francisco. I discovered that the Apple store has various free events in their stores, though this one is only in San Francisco and New York, as well as Tokyo and Hong Kong.

The event is an interactive guided walk where you get to experience art pieces in an augmented reality experience.  Augmented reality is a technology that superimposes a computer generated image on a user’s view of the real word, thus providing a composite view.  Apple provides the equipment for the experience-a phone and headphones. You look through the phone and the art is projected onto your environment. The walk is about a mile and a half around downtown San Francisco. It’s an interesting experience that is hard to describe.  It’s weird, a bit strange but quite fascinating. I would definitely recommend it as it’s not an experience that one gets regularly.

So that’s what I’ve been up to in my life.  What have you been doing? Anything fun, interesting?
