Mirror Frame Project (yes, it’s taking forever)

So at this point I don’t even recall how long I’ve been talking about framing my mirror as part of my master bath project-a long time! I have gotten part of it done but I am not yet finished. As usual, I started strong, got distracted and haven’t gotten back to it. Part of the issue is that I need to re-cut the two shorter boards because of an incorrect measurement before I can start staining them.
In any event, I will show you what I’ve gotten done at this point.

These are the products that I’ll be using to complete the project. Though it’s hard to see, the wood is behind all of the products!

After the balcony clean off, one of the items I kept was this cart specifically so that I could store items that I am currently using on projects.

And of course, I am working on my recently cleaned off balcony. It is my favorite space for this type of work.

The first step is to condition the wood so that the stain adheres better and does not just soak into the wood.

Staining is next and it’s simply a matter of applying the stain, waiting an hour or so, applying another coat and waiting some more. The number of coats needed is really based on personal preference. I was happy with three coats.

And of course, after the final coat, you wait until it’s completely dry. Most people would then start on the two shorter pieces but I want to re-measure and cut them down before I stain them.

Here’s where we are now:

In spite of how long it’s taking me to get this done, I am excited about how the frame will look on the mirror and with the paint color I’ve chosen.

Stay tuned.
