Annual Oscar Party 2019

oscar party

On Sunday, February 24, I hosted my annual Oscar party. I was I knew which annual it is but I don’t remember and I don’t feel like going through years of digital photos to figure it out. Suffice it to say, it’s been several years!
Hosting the Oscar party means one thing. The 91st Academy Awards was held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. This year, for the first time ever, there was no host. I don’t feel the need to go into all of the controversy about host vs no host. It’s all over the internet if you care to read an article about it.

PARTY TIME

This post though is about my party! Every year, I look forward to hosting this soiree. If you’ve ever hosted anything, you know how stressful it can be. I try to keep it as stress free as possible though (I’m never successful)!
It’s a potluck event with my guests bringing everything from wine to desserts. I provide main dishes though because the show starts at dinner time and people need real food to eat!

This year, I provided Chinese food dishes. We had Cashew Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork, Mu Shu Vegetables, Pot Stickers, Garlic String Beans, Walnut Prawns, Brown Rice and Chicken Fried Rice. Guests brought taquitos, 7 layer bean dip with chips, cheese, crackers and a fruit plate, various pastries and a lemon mousse dessert.
As usual, I also provide popcorn and a host of movie treats!

The decor is fun but simple. I’d had many of the decor for years and this year I added a couple of fun doorway hangings that glammed things up a bit!

The Ballot and Bingo Games

While it’s not required, my Oscar party is somewhat interactive. I also print from the internet the Oscar ballot so that guests can try to determine who the winners will be in the different categories. The other bit of fun is the Oscar bingo game which is always a hoot. The categories are specific to the current Oscar year and has blocks like winner puts their glasses on to read notes, movie you haven’t seen wins, awkward joke about the show not having a host, winner mentions their fellow nominees. The game is always fun with lots of arguing about if a situation counts!

But of course, the best part about the party is spending it with friends. I have some friends who’ve been coming to my party for years and have recently added in some new, fun friends.

Another fun Oscar party is in the books!! Maybe between now and next year, I’ll try to figure out how many parties I’ve had!
Do any of you go to or host Oscar parties? What are your favorite parts?
