It went down, y’all!! One weekend, lots of clothes, shoes, and purses and I can see the floor of my closet! Not sure why but it’s the best part. Since I finished the closet, I look down at the floor in the morning when I get dressed and in the evening when I get undressed.
I realized the other day that I could actually undress in the closet, re-hang clothes and put the dirty ones in the hamper. In addition to not re-stuffing the closet, the other goal is to keep the floor clear so that I can change my clothes in it!
So, let’s get to it!
THE STARTING POINT
It is hard to get a good picture of the closet. It is definitely a walk in closet with a single bar on the right side where I hang long clothing (dresses, pants, long shirts) and the left side with a double bar where I hang shirts and skirts as well as some sweaters and jackets.
The top shelf which runs around the closet houses purses, boots, sweats and miscellaneous clothes stuff like my steamer, lint roller and laundry stain remover.
And as you can see, the shoe rack cabinet sits in the back. Those are 3 separate units. The top one has 15 spaces and the bottom has 25. The middle is of course drawers. I will likely go through the drawers soon. The drawers house items that don’t get used daily like travel products, gloves, extra wallets and clutches, etc…
THE JOURNEY
One of the things I did at the last minute was paint the lip around the shelves. In reality, the entire closet could use a could paint job but I wasn’t prepared or planning on that right now. However, that lip was looking chipped and raggedy and I knew I had some paint in my stash that I could use to jazz it up. I used the paint color Summer Night by Valspar.
THE DESTINATION
I’m am thoroughly happy with the result of my efforts! This clean out took me all weekend but that’s because I did it right. I pulled everything out and tried on clothes to determine if they fit and if I still liked them. The items that got put back are items that I fully like and intend to wear.
All of the shoes I kept fit into the storage unit (not on purpose). My boots and wedges are on the shelf above.
I reduced my purses by A LOT and I have tons of space left on the hanging rods.
Look at all of the hangers I have left over! My plan is to attempt to color coordinate the hangers with clothing items but it’s not a necessary requirement.
My gym bag is sitting on top of a wicker basket. That basket will hold clothing and other items that I will donate. When the basket is full, I will take it to Goodwill. Of course, right now the basket is empty!
I also reduced my sweats/lounge clothing. What I kept is more than enough. This fun sign sits next to the door opening of my closet.
Yay!! One more goal knocked off of the to-do list! It’s great to complete goals and I feel very motivated to move on to the next task at hand!
How are you doing on your goals?
