December Small Goals and November Results

Here we go again!!  Let’s see how November worked out and discuss what we’ll shoot for in December.

NOVEMBER RESULTS

1. CD Project-remove the remaining CD’s and the CD rack.  SUCCESS!!!! I finally buckled down and got this done.  The CD’s are all  boxed up and ready to be cataloged and digitized (in 2019).

2. Drawer Organization-the goal was to clean out my 3 drawers that house my workout gear. SUCCESS!!! The drawers now contain only items ready for use! I wrote a post here about the process and the time it took. Really enlightening for me.

PERSONAL MONTHLY CHALLENGES

1. Drink 32 ounces of water daily. Again, a partial success.  I managed to meet this goal 24 of 30 days.
2.Meet my activity goal 75% of the month or 22 of 30 days. I’m  not going to call this a failure but it wasn’t a rousing success. But there is a valid reason. I managed to meet my activity goal 16 of the 30 days this month.  For two weeks in November, we had terrible fires resulting in seriously unhealthy air.  We were all wearing masks when outside and advised not to over exert.  I have a job where I am out in the elements most of the day so the smoke really got to me.  When I got home, I was tired, my eyes were dry and sore as was my throat. I made a conscious choice to limit my activity for that two week period of time.
However, there were some days that I absolutely could have “moved” more.  I drove to Southern California to visit my family for Thanksgiving.  Other than visiting with family and friends, it is my habit to be kind of a sloth/slug when I visit.  This will have to  change if I want a different result. I’m going down again for Christmas and will be there a bit longer.  I will have to make moving a serious priority if I plan to make this goal in December.

DECEMBER SMALL GOALS

This is my favorite time of year and I plan to enjoy it! There is no way that I’m going to spend this month cleaning out closets and organizing drawers when there are parties to attend, cookies to eat, and family and friends to spend time with. My goals this month are not greatly challenging but they are still important to me and will add to the quality of my life.

  1. HOLIDAY CARDS-I hand make my holiday cards every year.  It is a time consuming process and I wouldn’t have it any other way!  My goal is to have my cards ready to mail by Monday, December 17.  Just for reference, I will be sending out about 50 cards.
  2. LAUNDRY ROOM DOOR-I have a bi-fold door that has come off the track on both the top and bottom.  It is too un-wielding for me to handle alone.  A friend will be staying over for a couple of nights mid-month and I’m going to ask her to help me get it back on track.  She helped me with it once before so she’s at least as versed as I am in dealing with the door. So, Debbie??
PERSONAL MONTHLY CHALLENGES
  1. Drink 36 ounces of water daily. I will move forward with challenging myself and will also up the ounces to 36 ounces per day. I will try to find different ways to accomplish this goal daily.  What seems to work is starting the day with 8 ounces (I fill a cup and keep it on my nightstand-it’s the first thing I do when I wake up).  What will help?  I tend to do this only during the work week and slack off on the weekends. This month, I need to fill up my glass every night.  I also have to plan for when I am away from home.  Maintaining habits outside of my normal routine is tough for me.
  2. Activity-meet my activity goal 75% of the month or 23 times (31 days this month)!  Meeting this goal will require that I plan to “move” at times and locations that I am not used to.  This month, I will set a daily reminder to nudge me!

I’m  not sure if I mentioned it before but I track my personal monthly challenges using the Habit Buddy app. I love this app because you tell it what the habit is that you want to do or not do. When you complete the task, you get a check mark.  It keeps track of your streaks and it’s a nice visual reminder and motivational tool.

So, there we have it for December.  Anything you’re working on this month or do you choose to take this month off?
