Cabinet cleaning and organizing continues. Last week, I showed you how I cleaned out and organized the left side of a cabinet in my master bathroom. Today, it’s the cabinet on the right side. I am grateful that I have plenty of space to work with and am acutely aware that not utilizing the space appropriately costs me time and money. A cluttered space does not serve me or anyone well. Again, this cabinet became a catch-all and repository for random items.
This side of the cabinet houses hair products, nail products, skin and beauty products, full-sized toiletries and cleaning supplies. It has bothered me for a while that my cleaning supplies were so close to and co-mingled with my body condiments!
As in the past, the process remains the same. Empty the cabinet, create piles for items to keep, toss and donate. Clean the empty cabinet and then return the items. I like using containers to house products because I think it looks neater. It also helps to delineate what goes where.
I don’t think I’ve said it in my previous posts about decluttering, but I am not purchasing new containers for items. I am using what I have which is great so that nothing goes to waste. When you have containers that match, it does make the area look neater. But in my case, I decided to forgo the Pinterest perfection and keep it #reallife! I have enough containers and have no need to purchase more! The only time I would purchase something new is if I truly had nothing that fit the space or needed something exact.
Whenever items are piled on top on one another and not sitting flat, you know your stuff is out of control! There is no need for the hot curler container to not have a spot and sit on top of other stuff. Also I have this clear container with 3 sections that houses items for doing my nails. You’ll also note that there are random bottles of nail polish in the cabinet and on top of the container. Having the container demonstrates that I had some organization in mind but clearly had no room to expand or plan to get rid of older products.
Afterwards, here is what I’m left with:
The cleaning products are now housed in their own container away from the other products which makes me very happy!
One of the things I did that I found very helpful was to go through all o f my bottles of nail polish and get rid of those that were really old and focus on those colors that I tend to wear most often. I do my nails at home on occasion so I do like to have a few color varieties available to me. Some of the colors had been there so long that I could not even recall when I acquired them!
Another project on the “to do” list gets checked off!
