Last time, I showed you a “small” organizing project that you can generally get done in 30 minutes or less. Today, I’m sharing a bigger, medium-sized project that you can get done in about an hour.
I have two large cabinets in my master bathroom that don’t get a great deal of attention. In fact, you’ll see that this one side has become a catch-all for all kinds of items. On this left side I store mostly travel items like travel containers, bags, extra pill containers and travel sized toiletries. There are also extra toiletries including lotions, soaps, body scrubs and scrubbers.
Just like with the medicine cabinet, I pulled everything out, threw away stuff that needed to be thrown out, created another pile for donation and then assessed what I had left.
As much as I sometimes procrastinate on cleaning out and organizing, the empty cabinet is my favorite part of the process. I procrastinate because I open the cabinet and see the pile of stuff staring back at me and I just feel overwhelmed!!!! However, once I start it’s really hard to stop.
Whenever I get to this “in progress” stage, I always wonder why it took me so long to start! I find that it’s helpful to set a timer to see how long tasks actually take. I used to hate to empty the dishwasher and then I timed myself and realized that it only takes me 2 minutes to unload!! 2 MINUTES!!! That’s nothing so I usually end up performing this task when I’m making dinner.
Anyway, this AFTER picture makes me very happy. I can see everything that I have and there is empty space!!! I will admit that I have to remind myself that empty space does not need to be filled!
I’m so thrilled now that when I travel or have a need for a travel sized item, I can open my cabinet and actually “SEE” if I have what I need. No more buying things that I already have. Yay for me (and an organized cabinet)!
