As I’ve mentioned in the past, I am on a quest to get rid of excess items in my home. It’s an ongoing, year-long process which makes it difficult to stay motivated at times. One way to stay motivated and keep moving forward is to tackle small organizing projects along with the larger ones. I define small organizing projects as those that take 15 minutes to one hour.
I’ve recently tackled two small spaces in my master bathroom-the medicine cabinet and a drawer.
These types of spaces can be very useful if kept up or they become repositories for stuff. While my medicine cabinet isn’t particularly awful, the reality is that other than the medication that I take regularly, I have a hard time knowing what I have. Do I have some Tylenol, allergy medication, Neosporin? If I have those items, how long have I had them? Are they expired?
I start by removing everything from the cabinet and then throw out anything expired. I then wipe down and clean the shelves before returning the kept items to their very own space.
Now it’s time to return items to their new homes, make note of any purchases that need to be made and remind myself that the entire space does not need to be filled up.
The drawer I tackled was much less dramatic but much more of a waste of space. I actually did not even know what I had in this drawer. I was recently looking for a protective knee sleeve and had no idea where I had left them. It was while I was looking for this sleeve that lead me to this drawer. There were all sorts of goodies in this drawer that I had not thought about for a good long while.
When all was said and done, the drawer now only has the items in it that I need.
Cleaning out both of these spaces took less than an hour and has motivated me to tackle a much more challenging space-the two large cabinets in my master bathroom!
