Well, let’s see, the last time I did a monthly goals recap it is was February and now it’s May. That may give you a good idea of how well I’m doing with my monthly goals. As we’ve all heard, “progress, not perfection”, “it’s a marathon, not a sprint”, and so on.
Let’s see where we left off and where we are now. And by we, I mean me-though I hope you’re progressing on your goals.
MARCH GOALS AND RESULTS:
KITCHEN SINK: I’m going to continue tracking this one but likely for this final month. As I said, this is really becoming a habit for me in that I don’t have to remind myself to do it. it’s becoming natural-it’s just what I do.
RESULTS: As I suspected, I have developed the “habit” of cleaning my kitchen before I go to bed on work nights. I do it on non-work nights as well but I’m not as strict about it. Even still, it has really become a habit and I know this because even when I am really tired I still go straight to the kitchen and make sure it’s clean before I go to bed. SUCCESS!!!!!
11:30 BED TIME: I’m also going to continue tracking this one specifically because in April I have some plans to work on getting up earlier and going to bed on time will play a big role in whether or not I’m successful. Again, it’s only for work nights.
RESULTS: For March and most of April, I did pretty well with this goal. I am naturally a night person so this is really hard for me. From mid-April until the end of the month, this goal was hit or miss. I was staying up much later than is healthy on work nights. Usually when I do this it’s because I’m stressed and not dealing with whatever needs to be dealt with. This time however, I don’t believe this is the case. Not sure what is going on but I will continue to assess and evaluate. This goal will be added for May. PARTIAL SUCCESS (and back at it)!
30 MINUTE TIDY: What I really want to do with this goal is to work on the areas of my home that I am de-cluttering. I have some extra motivation as well because in mid-April I am hosting a garage sale with a friend and I’d like to have as much stuff to sell (and out of my house) as possible. Again, the goal will be 4 times per week.
RESULTS: So this one is a little hard to deem a success or failure. I didn’t do a 30 minute tidy at least 4 days per week but I did do a great deal of de-cluttering and had a ton of stuff for the garage sale (post to come). I did not get as many areas of my home de-cluttered as I had hoped but what I did do had an enormous impact. So, with all that said I’m calling this a SUCCESS! Part of my goal in de-cluttering was to have items for the garage sale which I did. I’m going to continue this goal with a slight change to keep the momentum going.
MAY GOALS:
11:30 BEDTIME: Going to bed on time helps me to get up on time which leads to a productive day. When I get enough sleep, I also tend to eat better, get in some exercise and just feel good in general. My goal is for work days only though I’m leading up to being consistent with this bed time daily and getting up at the same time daily.
DE-CLUTTERING PROJECT: I want to continue to feel the wonderful way I felt when I was purging areas for the garage sale. Though I don’t have another sale scheduled yet (maybe in the fall?) I want to continue to ruthlessly purge my home. I have been so disgusted with the amount of stuff I’ve accumulated over the years and am ready to significantly pare down. The goal for May will be to spend time each week purging an area until it’s done. I realized that it’s not realistic to try to purge a little every day-my schedule doesn’t allow for that. So instead I will strive for at least 2 hours per week, however that breaks down. I suspect that I will get it done mostly on the weekends which is fine because then during the week I can spend time doing other needed household stuff like cooking and cleaning! To sum it up, the goal is a minimum of 2 hours per week spent purging.
Based on what I’ve learned these past few months about my schedule, energy and motivation, those two goals are enough for now.
