I have been working on updating my hallway since November 2017. The BIG change of course is paint. After much contemplation, research, and samples on the wall, I chose Stonington Grey by Behr. Frames and wall decor came down, holes were spackled and filled and then……...CRICKETS.
Why you ask? Because the next step was to tape off the baseboards, ceilings, and doorways and start the cutting in process. This is the part I absolutely DESPISE!! Actually painting the walls is fun but the prep work, SUCKS!!
I finally decided to just go ahead with it and when I went to my cabinet to retrieve the painter’s tape I saw that I had brand new in the package a paint edger by Shur-line. This is a tool advertised to get you a “perfect edge every time”. I thought, ‘what the heck’, I’ll give it a try. Really, anything to not have to fool with painter’s tape.
I watched a 2 minute video on YouTube (because I don’t do anything without watching YT first!) and got to it. I have to say watching the video was very helpful. Using tools is not intuitive to me and I am definitely more of a visual learner so I give mad props to YT!
Anyway, I did what I was supposed to and………………...OMG……………..IT WORKED!!! And it worked, really well! I’m not sure I’d call it perfect but it was effective and did what it said it would do. I got 90% of the hallway done in about 35 minutes. I will do the baseboards on another day because I needed to stop so that I could get other life stuff done.
I am so glad that I discovered this tool in my stash! It really does take away the pain and tedious-ness of taping off. It does not get all the way into corners but that’s ok. I DIDN’T HAVE TO TAPE OFF BASEBOARDS!!
I still have to paint the whole wall of course but that’s the easy part!
What part of painting do you not like or procrastinate doing?
