Today I have a couple of brief updates on two of my home goals for 2018. First up is the hallway refresh. When we last met, I shared with you the color I have chosen for the hallway which is Stonington Gray by Behr. I haven’t made a ton of progress but I did complete (with help) one of the tasks on the to do list.
My laundry door had come completely off of the track (it is a bifold door). I had the hardware to repair it and managed to repair the track but the door is big, heavy and ultimately it was too awkward for me to complete the task on my own. Luckily, my very good friend, Debbie, was spending a couple of nights at my home in December and graciously offered to help me finish the repair. Actually, for future reference, any friends or family who spend the night will be required to help perform some type of manual labor that I will undoubtedly need help with. Just kidding!! On the real though, sometimes you just need help, a different eye or moral support to complete some tasks. Debbie has helped me with home tasks in the past and was very willing and kind to help with this one.
Now, because I am an inexperienced blogger, I completely forgot to take photos of the door off of the track or of the process of putting it back on. Truth be told, I don’t have a fresh take to offer that Google or YouTube can’t help you with. The repair itself is not that difficult. The major thing I needed to do was to squeeze the track closer together. After 12 years of being pulled open and closed while doing laundry, the track seems to have simply gotten stretched out on one side. The other side which is rarely opened is fine and needed no repair.
The awkwardness occurred with the size and weight of the door. I simply could not perform all of the motions needed to line the door up, put it back in the bottom track and then line it up on top by myself. But, with help, it was accomplished and I do have the pictures to prove it!
For reference, there are two bi-fold doors and it was the door on the left that was off track.
The next up hallway project (that I am definitely procrastinating on) is taping off and doing the cutting in. Painting the actual walls is the easy part and the part that I look forward to. But just the thought of doing the taping and cutting in, makes me want to sit on the couch and eat popcorn and watch Netflix! Hopefully, I’ll have a painting update within the next two weeks.
DE-CLUTTERING PROJECT:
The first area I decided to work on is the dining room. I chose this area because (1) it doesn’t get much attention (2) it ends up as a catch-all/storage area and (3) it’s small enough that it can get completed in a short period of time and perhaps feel a sense of accomplishment.
One of my goals with the de-cluttering project this year, is to work a project until completion. The dining room is small enough and has many fewer areas that need attention than some other rooms in my house!
Again, I forgot to take BEFORE photos but I did manage some in between photos. In the BEFORE shots, you would have seen stuff on the window sill, on the floor in front of and all around the table. Some of the items need a place to go and some will be donated or sold in a garage sale.
The in between photos are NOT the finished product. They are the IN PROGRESS photos. My goal was to simply remove items from the area that did not belong and clear out the hutch of unwanted and unused items. In the hutch, I managed to get the top two cabinets cleared out. I still need to work on the bottom (glass-less) cabinets as well as the bar area.
The bottom cabinets have my china in canvas containers as well as some table cloths, chargers and placements while the other side has candles and candle holders.
Once the hutch and the dining room only contains items that are going to remain, then I will figure out the decor and styling.
What projects are you working on OR what do you procrastinate doing?
