Bookclub Babes Annual Holiday Party 2017

Christmas theme cookies

Friday, December 15 and it’s time for our annual holiday party.  My book club (which I’ve talked about before and will again) has been together since November 2005 (12 years).  We’ve added and lost members throughout the years but we’ve never lost momentum.

Over the years we’ve not just been a book club but have also become friends.  We are truly a tribe and a bad ass girl gang who support one another through all of life’s beauties and challenges. Every year, we have a holiday party where we do a secret santa exchange and enjoy great food, drinks, and of course conversation. One of our members volunteers to host and we’ve always been treated to a beautiful scene!

On the night of the holiday party, we don’t talk about a book.  It is purely to celebrate.  We usually read a longer book chosen in November in preparation for our meeting in January.   Our next book will be, “Rich People Problems: A Novel” by Kevin Kwan.  As usual, I will listen to the book on the Audible app.  One of the book club members used to talk a lot about “listening” to books and I really did not get it.  I always loved to read and I don’t even like to listen to talk radio. I could not imagine what it would be like having someone read a book to me.  But I dove in with a free trial and have been hooked ever since. My first two listens (not book club related) were “Year of Yes” by Shonda Rhimes and “Why Not Me” by Mindy Kaling.  And I must say, I have not been disappointed with any of the books I’ve listened to.

BACK TO THE HOLIDAY PARTY……………………..

These ladies mean so much to me that it is really difficult to articulate.  We are the same and different in many ways.  Some of us met in childhood, some college and some as adults. Our members are married, single, divorced, with children and without.  We are of different racial and religious persuasions and hail from all around the world. This group is the absolute best living example of humanity and connectedness at its best.

So another year is in the books (pun absolutely intended) and the coming year will add even more interesting chapters to our lives.

Happy Holidays to everyone from the Northern California Book club Babes!!!
