Hallway Refresh-Update

I have a brief and not terribly exciting hallway refresh update for you.  It’s a little exciting because I have finally decided on the color I will paint the walls but otherwise I haven’t gotten much done.

It should come as no surprise that I am behind where I thought I’d be on this project.  I knew my year-end goal was ambitious but I didn’t think it was crazy.  Turns out it is really was!!  With getting ready for the craft fair, traveling for Thanksgiving, preparing for the holidays and then just regular life stuff, there has not been a ton of time for the hallway project.

But instead of focusing on what I haven’t done, let’s talk about what I have gotten done. I did finally manage to get the decor and frames down from the walls as well as take all of the screws and nails out of the walls. I also got the paint samples up on the wall.

It’s interesting in that as soon as I got the three choices up I instantly knew which was my choice.  I guess that’s the beauty of putting up samples on the wall.  To see them “live” during the day and at night it was clear to me which I preferred.

Here are the three samples I chose:

These samples are a wonderful example of why it’s important to get samples before choosing. The colors from the internet appear much lighter than when put on the wall. I hate that it’s so hard to really see the colors. My hallway gets no natural light and it’s just dark!  I liked all of the colors but from the beginning it was clear that Ozark Shadows was way too dark.

Edgecomb Gray was my early favorite and it is an internet star.  It’s easy to see why.  It is a beautiful neutral that would look great in any room.  I was surprised, though, that it’s really more “greige” than gray.  To my eye, I see way more beige than gray.  You can see the hint of gray so I see why they put it with the grays.  It’s also likely that in a room that gets more light you may catch more of the gray.

For me, the winner is STONINGTON GRAY!!  It is an actual gray which is what I want but is light enough for the space.

Here are the three samples side by side:

Edgecomb Gray is the furthest left; Ozark Shadows is in the middle and Stonington Gray is on the right.

You’ll see from the photos that there is some serious prep work that needs to be done. The holes need to be filled and the vinyl phrase removed.  The phrase is supposed to be removable but it is not an easy task to get it off.  Since I’m painting I’m not concerned with being careful about the paint but I will need to insure that all of the adhesive is removed and sanded off.

Painting itself is easy-the prep work in un-fun and totally un-motivating.  If I could just jump in and paint, this refresh would already be done. However, the painting fairy is off for the season so I have to go step by step and day by day.

Recognizing that we are in the midst of holiday season, I’m certain that this refresh will find itself completed in 2018.  My new goal is by the end of January.

I did manage to get my fall decor taken down and put away and have my Christmas tree and decor up and being enjoyed.  If I can get some decent photos, I will share my simple scene.

To be continued………….
