HALLWAY REFRESH

I’ve decided that the first task from my master list that I will take on is refreshing my hallway. I figure it’s not so large of a project that it will overwhelm me and it feels doable.  As long as I break it up into smaller steps, I should not (hopefully) get too overwhelmed. Because of the time of year (the last quarter, holidays, etc…) and the fact that I work full-time, I’m giving myself until the end of the year to get it done (and no lie, that still feels tight).

You’ll have to forgive the quality of my BEFORE photos as (1) I’m still learning and (2) the hallway gets no natural light.  The only light coming in is from the open bedroom doors and (3) it’s a long, skinny hallway and it’s just really hard to photograph it!

You will also notice that I did not clean up before taking the pictures.  This is how my hallway usually looks.  The hall tree is definitely the “collector” of things and I’m still deciding not just how it works best for me but really looking at how I use it.  When I get home, whatever is in my hands gets put here (and sometimes stays for days (or longer)!!

Without further ado, the BEFORE pictures:

Decisions to be made:

-paint-something in the gray family

-decide if I want to paint the hall tree (the truth is I know I want to but I’m worried that it will just help me procrastinate on the overall project).  I’m thinking that perhaps I’ll wait until the main project is done and do it after the new year.

-figure out photos for the gallery wall

Things to do:

-repair laundry room door (this isn’t hard as much as it’s awkward and kind of heavy).

-remove pictures and decor from the wall

-remove the mirror that’s been sitting in my hallway since I removed it during my guest bathroom refresh in 2015!!

-shampoo the carpet. As much as I’d love to change the flooring, it’s not in my budget right now.

-change all lighting to LED bulbs that increase the brightness.  I’d like the light to give off a more daylight look and not so yellow. I’d also like to change the lighting, but lighting is pricey!!!  For now, I will keep the “boob” lights until I have the budget and desire to look for something else.

I know this doesn’t sound like a lot to do but I usually need time to learn some new things, call in reinforcements to help with the heavy stuff or just take a break every now and again.

Potential paint colors (all by Benjamin Moore)

I’m leaning towards the Edgecomb Gray but I’ll probably get 2-3 samples to throw up on the wall and see what makes me the happiest!

Wish me luck and let me know if you have any advice as I tackle this project.
